Not another HPC 101. This week is built for people who already have data, code, or a research question — and need HPC to move it forward.
The Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE) is organizing a one-week workshop on HPC-enabled research and development for the FEDGEN Community of Practice.
The workshop targets an emerging HPC Community of Practice spanning bioinformatics, cheminformatics, materials science, engineering, and computer science, with an emphasis on real-world applications, workflows, user experience, and hands-on usage.
The knowledge and connections gained are expected to drive efficiency, deepen research impact, and sustain a collaborative HPC community across Africa.

Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of the Linux command line, or scientific computing generally
- Helpful, not required: Python or another scientific programming language
- Helpful, not required: familiarity with job schedulers such as Slurm

Three parallel tracks let participants specialize in the domain closest to their own research.
AI / ML on HPC
Agentic AI, federated AI, and accelerating model training across a GPU cluster.
Bioinformatics
RNA-Seq workflows and genome assembly, run end-to-end on shared HPC resources.
Scientific Simulations
OpenFOAM, LAMMPS, and GROMACS for materials, chemistry, and engineering simulation.
